Tenuta Di Arceno

Tenuta di Arceno is an ancient Tuscan estate with roots that can be traced back to the pre-Roman Etruscan civilization. Now owned by Jackson Family Wines who purchased the estate in 1994, it is one of the premier estates in the Chianti Classico region, located in the butterfly-shaped commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga where wine has been made for nearly 3,000 years. The company’s viticultural practices are inspired by the micro-cru philosophy of Winemaker Pierre Seillan and Lawrence Cronin who have been working together on the estate for almost 20 years, producing a diverse collection of wines under the Chianti Classico DOCG and Toscana IGT designations.

In 1989 they established their Shaw + Smith vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, a significantly colder wetter region of Australia, where they work exclusively with varieties specifically suited to cold climate growing. As members of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, they are committed to the sustainability and health of their soil and vines using environmentally sensitive practices. Alongside senior Winemaker Adam Wadewitz, they produce a refined and elegant collection of modern Australian wines.

Schug Winery

Legendary German-born winemaker Walter Schug originally gained fame as the founding winemaker for Joseph Phelps back in the 1970’s. There he earned critical acclaim with just about every major wine varietal and for creating the iconic “Insignia”, California’s first proprietary Bordeaux-style blend. Wanting to give more of his focus to his favourite varietals Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, he established his own 42 acre winery Schug Carneros in 1980. Today the family-owned winery is led by Walter’s children Alex and Claudia and dynamic German-American winemaker Johannes Scheid, who brings modern touches to the estate’s European-styled wines. Together they are dedicated to preserving Walter Schug’s rich legacy and his passion for winemaking.

Giuseppe Quintarelli, known to most as Bepi, or “Maestro del Veneto” was a Valpolicella pioneer who created and helped define the rich, elegant style of modern Amarone. His small, well-hidden winery in the village of Negrar, is one of the most legendary wineries in Veneto and sits on same land where the family has lived since 1924. A perfectionist, Giuseppe crafted some of the world’s finest wines and since his death in 2012, his daughter Fiorenza, her husband Giampaolo and their sons carry on his important legacy and continue to make wines with an uncompromising attention to detail.

Meerlust

Established in 1692, Meerlust Estate is one of the oldest and most historic wineries in South Africa. Hannes Myburgh’s family purchased the land back in 1756 and today he is the 8th generation to run the estate. Through most of its history, Meerlust was known for producing sweet white wines, which were popular at that time (and were also used as a medicine for sailors to combat scurvy). Things changed however when Hannes travelled to Bordeaux and Burgundy and fell in love with the wines of the region. He returned to South Africa and replanted all the vines becoming a pioneer producer of Bordeaux varietals in the Cape in the late 1970’s. Today the estate produces exceptional wines of complexity and character including their flagship “Rubicon”, one of the Cape’s greatest red wines.
